Leonardo Marzagalia, italian pianist and composer, was born in Varese on Lake Maggiore. His musical vocation manifested itself quite hastily and his family, to support his natural talent, moved to Milano where the very young Leonardo was able to attend the Music Conservatory "Giuseppe Verdi" and achieve the highest grades to complete his piano diploma in 1970.
His musical formation consists of three major traditions in piano culture of the 1900's: the tradition of philologic critic matched with his extreme knowledge of the technique of Giuseppe Piccioli; the tradition of the large neapolitan school of Giuseppe Martucci absorbed through Bruno Canino's teaching and, above all, the tradition taught by Giovanni DellÁgnola that escalates to Alfred Cortot's teaching, which finally adds to the exceptional French and European piano of Chopin and Debussy. His career has developed along three diverse directions nevertheless, always complimenting each other: the solo pianist, the composer, and the Master accompanist.
His name appears with those of famous lyrical celebrities such as Carlo Bergonzi, Giulietta Simionato and Giuseppe Di Stefano, in the capacity of piano accompanist and valuable collaborator. In this concerts, he alternates the most sophisticated passages of the 1800's and 1900's with his own compositions. They are happily defined as "Miniature musicali" or "Dreams in musical form". To whomever asks what music means to him, Leonardo Marzagalia loves to respond by paraphrasing Hans Cristian Andersen: music helps to find the way to someone's heart.
